Teaching Qualifications

Teaching qualifications that could be helpful or relevant to an ADI could include:

City and Guilds Teaching Adult Learners

City and Guilds 7303
Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

City and Guilds 7304
Certificate In Teaching In The Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

City and Guilds 7305
Diploma In Teaching In The Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)

These are qualifications mainly aimed at people wanting to deliver classroom lessons, but even if you do not plan to teach in a classroom it can help to get a better understanding of the principles of how people learn; teaching techniques; and lesson planning and preparation.

Other organisations, often colleges or universities offer their own equivalent qualifications.

RoSPA
National Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction

This is a qualification that will include:

Classroom Teaching and Presentation Skills
Assessment of your Driving
Instructional Commentary Driving as a Teaching Technique
In Car Teaching & Coaching Techniques

This qualification will also gain you entry to the DSA Register of Fleet Driver Trainers.

Driving Standards Agency Register of
Fleet Driver Trainers

At the moment this is a voluntary register of ADIs who deliver training to company car drivers.

Entry to this register is either by completing a DSA approved training course
eg. RoSPA National Diploma in Advanced Driving Instruction
or by passing the DSA qualifying examinations, which follow a similar format to ADI qualification:

Part 1  Theory
Part 2  Driving Ability
Part 3  Instructional Ability

These tests differ from the ADI qualifying tests, and are aimed at assessing relevant abilities for training experienced drivers.
